Prepare for the FIDE test

Private French lessons online to prepare the Swiss FIDE test, for your residence permit or your naturalisation.

We train on the real tasks of the test: making an appointment, visiting a flat, talking with your employer. I also teach in Geneva, with students who prepare the same test.

What the FIDE test is

The FIDE is the official Swiss test of French, German and Italian for everyday life. The authorities use it for residence permits and naturalisation.

Two parts, taken separately

The oral part is a conversation with two examiners: they test how you speak and how you understand. The written part tests reading and writing. You can take the two parts on different days.

Two versions: A1–A2 or A2–B1

You choose the version that matches the level you need. The test stops at B1.

You get the level you reached

There is no pass or fail. Your result shows your level for each skill: speaking, understanding, reading and writing.

The test is about everyday life in Switzerland

The questions come from six situations. These are the situations we practise in the lessons.

Work

A job interview, talking with colleagues and your employer.

Housing

Visiting a flat, writing to the agency, asking a neighbour for help.

Health

Making an appointment, explaining what’s wrong at the doctor’s.

Authorities

Renewing your permit, answering questions at an office.

Courses

Signing up for a course, asking about times and prices.

Children

Talking with the school or the daycare about your child.

How I prepare you

We find your level

In the first lessons, you do a part of an official practice test. We see where you are, and how far the level you need is.

We train the tasks

The test scores what you can do, not what you know. So we practise the situations, one by one, starting with the one that matters most for your permit.

You learn the sentences that save you

“Can you repeat, please?”, “How do you say…?” They help in every situation, and they help you finish the task, which is what the examiners score.

We do a full mock test

Before the day, a complete practice test in real conditions. Then we work only on what didn’t go well.

After each lesson, your Smart Classroom keeps the vocabulary, your corrections and your homework. Before the test, you have everything to review in one place.

Why prepare with me

  • I teach in Geneva. Group lessons in a language school, with people who live in Switzerland and prepare the FIDE.
  • I’ve prepared students for exams since 2007: the DELF, the TEF, the TCF and now the FIDE.
  • I’m honest about time. In the trial lesson, I tell you what’s realistic before your test date.
  • You book when it suits you. No fixed weekly slot: you can do more lessons in the weeks before the test.

Questions

It depends on your procedure. For naturalisation, it’s usually B1 for speaking and A2 for writing. For a C permit, it’s usually A2 for speaking and A1 for writing. The rules can change with your canton and your situation: check with your cantonal migration office, and tell me what they ask.

The one that includes the level you need. If you need B1 for speaking, take A2–B1. If A2 is enough, A1–A2 is usually the better choice. We decide together in the trial lesson.

Yes. They are two separate tests, and you can take them on different days. Many people start with the part they feel strongest in.

Your result still shows the level you reached for each skill. You can take the test again, only the part you need.

It depends on your level today and on the level you need. Going from zero to A2 takes a lot of hours; going from a weak A2 to a solid one can take a few weeks. Tell me your test date in the trial lesson, and I’ll tell you honestly what’s realistic.

No. The oral part is a conversation, and that’s exactly what we do on Google Meet. You can be anywhere in Switzerland, or not there yet.
