Welcome to Social French! These Terms of Sale explain what you’re buying, how billing works, and what your rights are. They’re written to be read, not just scrolled past. If anything is unclear, write to us at hello@socialfrench.com — you’ll get an answer from a human (Anthony).
1. Who you’re buying from
Social French is operated by Anthony Lucas, sole trader (entrepreneur individuel under the French micro-entrepreneur regime), registered in France.
- Business name: Social French
- Registration (SIREN/SIRET): 832 446 215 00036
- Registered address: 12 rue Jacotot, 73100 Aix-les-Bains, France
- Email: hello@socialfrench.com
- VAT: not applicable — Article 293 B of the French Tax Code (TVA non applicable, art. 293 B du CGI)
“We”, “us” and “Social French” mean Anthony Lucas. “You” means the person purchasing a membership or lesson pack, acting as a consumer.
2. What we sell
Two distinct things, covered by two parts of these Terms:
- Part A — Membership subscription: access to the Social French platform — the learning space (courses, lessons, audio, quizzes) and the community.
- Part B — Lesson packs: packs of one-to-one lessons with a teacher, reserved for active members.
By purchasing either, you accept these Terms. The version in force at the time of your purchase applies.
Part A — Membership subscription
A1. What the membership includes
An active membership gives you personal access to:
- the Social French learning space (structured French courses, lessons, audio, quizzes and practice material);
- the Social French community (discussion spaces, posts, comments);
- the ability to book one-to-one lessons (sold separately — see Part B).
The membership does not include one-to-one lessons. Content evolves over time: we may add, improve, reorganise or replace lessons and features. We won’t strip the platform of its substance while you’re paying for it.
A2. Plans and prices
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|
| Founder (limited offer) | €25 / month | €250 / year |
| Standard | €30 / month | €300 / year |
Prices are in euros, VAT not applicable (Article 293 B, French Tax Code). The yearly plan is equivalent to two months free compared to the monthly plan.
Every new membership starts with a 7-day free trial (see A4 bis).
The Founder plan is a limited launch offer, reserved for the first 50 paid memberships. Places are allocated at the first payment — when your free trial converts (see A4 bis) — not when the trial starts: beginning a trial does not reserve a Founder place. Once the 50 places are taken, only the Standard plan remains available.
A3. Founder price lock (“for life”)
If you subscribe as a Founder, your price (€25/month or €250/year, depending on the billing cycle you chose) is locked for as long as your subscription remains continuously active, even when the standard price increases later.
To keep the Founder price:
- your subscription must stay active without interruption (renewals paid);
- if a payment fails, you keep the Founder price as long as the payment is regularised within the retry period communicated to you (dunning period);
- if you cancel, or if your subscription ends for non-payment after the retry period, the Founder price is lost. If you come back later, the then-current standard price applies.
You can switch billing cycle (monthly ↔ yearly) within the Founder plan without losing the lock, at the Founder rate of the new cycle.
The price lock is a price guarantee, not a content guarantee: the platform will evolve like for every member.
A4. Ordering and account
You subscribe online via our checkout (operated through SureCart, with payment processed by Stripe). You must provide accurate information and be at least 18, or have the consent of a parent or guardian. Your account is personal: one account, one learner. Sharing your access is not allowed (see A10).
The contract is formed when you receive our order confirmation email.
A4 bis. Free trial (7 days)
Every new membership (monthly or yearly) starts with a 7-day free trial, with full access: the learning space, the community, and lesson booking.
- A valid payment card is required at sign-up, but nothing is charged during the trial.
- Unless you cancel before the end of the 7th day, your subscription starts automatically at the end of the trial and the plan you chose (Founder or Standard, monthly or yearly) is charged.
- You can cancel at any time during the trial from your member account (the same self-service portal as in A6) — you will not be charged anything.
- One free trial per person. Creating another account or using another email address to get a second trial is not allowed.
- Founder places are allocated at the first payment: the Founder price is locked when your trial converts, within the limit of the 50 paid memberships (see A2 and A3). Starting a trial does not reserve a place.
A5. Billing and renewal
- Nothing is charged during the free trial (A4 bis); the first payment happens automatically when the trial converts, unless you cancelled before.
- Subscriptions then renew automatically at the end of each period (monthly or yearly) until cancelled.
- Payment is charged at the start of each period to the payment method you provided via Stripe.
- Before each yearly renewal, we send a reminder email.
- If a payment fails, we retry several times and email you. If payment ultimately fails, your subscription ends and access is revoked.
A6. Cancelling your subscription
You can cancel at any time from your member account (self-service portal), in a few clicks — no phone call, no letter, no justification.
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period (month or year already paid). You keep access until then.
- Except where the law requires otherwise (see A7), periods already started are not refunded — including the yearly plan: cancelling mid-year does not trigger a pro-rata refund.
A7. Right of withdrawal (14 days)
As a consumer buying at a distance, you have a legal right of withdrawal of 14 days from the day you subscribe, without giving any reason.
Because the membership gives you immediate access to the platform, at checkout you expressly request that the service starts right away. If you withdraw within the 14 days:
- we refund your payment, minus an amount proportional to the time elapsed between the start of your access and your withdrawal (Article L.221-25 of the French Consumer Code);
- your access ends when the withdrawal is processed.
Free trial and withdrawal. The contract is concluded — and the 14-day withdrawal period starts — on the day you sign up, i.e. at the start of the free trial (A4 bis). During the trial, withdrawing and cancelling come to the same thing: nothing was charged, nothing is owed. If you withdraw after the trial has converted into a paid subscription, the pro-rata deduction above is calculated on the paid period only (from the conversion date) — the free trial days are never charged.
To withdraw, email us at hello@socialfrench.com with a clear statement (you may use the model form at the end of these Terms). Refunds are made via the original payment method (Stripe) within 14 days.
A8. Price changes (Standard plan)
We may change the Standard price. If we do, we’ll notify you by email at least 30 days before the change applies to your subscription. If you don’t want the new price, you can cancel before it takes effect. Founder members keep their locked price (see A3).
A9. Availability
We aim to keep the platform available at all times, but we can’t promise 100% uptime (maintenance, hosting incidents, force majeure). Planned maintenance is announced when it may noticeably affect you. Extended unavailability caused by us gives rise, at most, to a pro-rata extension or refund of the affected period — not to further damages, except where the law says otherwise.
A10. Fair use and community rules
The platform is a paid, members-only space. You agree to:
- keep your credentials personal and confidential (no account sharing);
- not copy, redistribute, resell or scrape the course content (see A11);
- behave respectfully in the community: no harassment, hate speech, spam, commercial solicitation or illegal content.
We may remove content, suspend or terminate an account that seriously or repeatedly breaches these rules. If we terminate your account for such a breach, sums already paid for the current period remain due. You can contest any measure by writing to us.
A11. Intellectual property
All course content (lessons, audio, exercises, quizzes, method, texts, visuals) belongs to Anthony Lucas or his licensors. Your membership gives you a personal, non-transferable, non-commercial right to use the content for your own learning, for the duration of your membership. Content you post in the community remains yours; you grant us the licence needed to display it on the platform.
A12. Liability
We provide the platform with care, but learning outcomes depend mostly on you — we don’t guarantee a level, an exam result or a timeline. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (including French consumer law’s legal guarantee of conformity for digital services — Articles L.224-25-12 et seq. of the Consumer Code).
Part B — Lesson packs (one-to-one lessons)
B1. Eligibility
Lesson packs are reserved for active members — including members in their free trial period (A4 bis), who can book trial lessons, single lessons and packs from day one. If your membership ends, you can no longer book lessons; the effect on remaining credits is described in B6.
B2. What a pack is
A pack is a set number of one-to-one lessons of a fixed duration, with a teacher (currently Anthony), bookable through the platform’s booking system. Current packs:
| Pack | Lesson | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 10 lessons — online (1h) | 1h by videoconference | €450 |
| 20 lessons — online (1h) | 1h by videoconference | €850 |
| 10 lessons — Geneva (1h) | 1h in person, Geneva | €720 |
| 20 lessons — Geneva (1h) | 1h in person, Geneva | €1,360 |
| 10 lessons — Geneva (1h30) | 1h30 in person, Geneva | €1,080 |
| 20 lessons — Geneva (1h30) | 1h30 in person, Geneva | €2,040 |
Packs are valid for 6 months from the date of purchase (credit expiry — see B3). Single lessons at full price (also used as the reference value in B5): online 1h — €50 · Geneva 1h — €80 · Geneva 1h30 — €120. New students can book a trial lesson at half the standard rate, limited to one per student: 1h online — €25, or 1h in Geneva — €40. The prices displayed in the booking area at the time of purchase always prevail.
Online lessons take place by videoconference (currently Google Meet). In-person lessons take place in Geneva, Switzerland, on the days offered in the booking calendar.
B3. Validity period
Pack credits are valid for 6 months from the date of purchase. After that date, unused credits expire and are not refunded, except as stated in B5 (withdrawal) or if we agree otherwise as a commercial gesture. The expiry date is shown in your member space.
B4. Booking, cancelling and missing a lesson
Lessons are booked through your member space, subject to the teacher’s availability. Cancellation and no-show rules are set out in the Absence & Cancellation Policy, which forms part of these Terms — the short version:
- cancel more than 24 hours before the lesson: the credit is not deducted;
- cancel less than 24 hours before: the credit is deducted;
- no-show without notice: the credit is deducted;
- if the teacher cancels: the credit is never deducted.
B5. Right of withdrawal (14 days)
You have a 14-day right of withdrawal from the purchase of a pack. If you book (and take) lessons within those 14 days, you expressly request that the service begins before the end of the withdrawal period; if you then withdraw, we refund the pack minus the lessons already taken, valued at the full single-lesson price (see B2). To withdraw, email us at hello@socialfrench.com.
B6. Refunds outside the withdrawal period
After the 14-day withdrawal period, packs are non-refundable, including unused credits, except:
- if we are unable to provide the lessons (teacher unavailability not compensated by rescheduling, discontinuation of the service): unused credits are refunded pro-rata;
- serious circumstances (e.g. medical) assessed case by case, at our discretion, as a commercial gesture — refund or validity extension.
If your membership ends while you still have credits: your remaining credits stay usable until their expiry date — booking access is kept for the sole purpose of using them up. However, no new pack can be purchased without an active membership.
B7. Prices and payment
Pack prices are shown at purchase, in euros, VAT not applicable (Article 293 B). Payment is by card via Stripe at the time of purchase. Lessons and packs may change price for the future; a pack already purchased is never repriced.
Part C — Common provisions
C1. Complaints and contact
Something wrong? Write to hello@socialfrench.com. We answer personally and quickly — most issues get solved this way.
C2. Consumer mediation (France)
In accordance with Articles L.612-1 et seq. of the French Consumer Code, if we can’t solve a dispute together, you can use, free of charge, the consumer mediation service we belong to:
CM2C — Centre de la Médiation de la Consommation de Conciliateurs de Justice 49 rue de Ponthieu, 75008 Paris, France Phone: +33 1 89 47 00 14 Online filing (fastest): https://www.cm2c.net/declarer-un-litige.php By post at the address above, or by email: litiges@cm2c.net
Before going to the mediator, you must first have sent us a written complaint (email is fine — see C1) and given us a chance to resolve it. If we haven’t solved it to your satisfaction, you can refer the matter to CM2C within one year of your written complaint. Mediation is free for you as a consumer.
C3. Governing law
These Terms are governed by French law. If you live in another country of the European Union, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer rules of your country of residence. Competent courts: the courts designated by applicable rules of jurisdiction.
C4. Miscellaneous
- If a clause is held invalid, the rest of the Terms stay in force.
- We may update these Terms; the version applicable to a purchase is the one in force on the purchase date. Material changes to an ongoing subscription are notified 30 days in advance (see A8 for prices).
- Personal data: see our Privacy Policy.
